Experienced Software Engineer
WordPress doesn’t try to keep its users inside walled gardens, a rare thing in a world that is dangerously moving away from the open web. Instead, WordPress gives them the freedom to build a business website, an online store, or a personal blog – the way they like it. Big sites or small, using the community-run open source project or Automattic’s WordPress.com, vanilla or customized with hundreds of plugins, WordPress users always get to own and control their data, their expression, and their freedom.
We’re always looking for talented and experienced engineers worldwide, excited to help Automattic’s product ecosystem, and join our mission to make the web a better place.
What have we worked on recently?
- AI is at the heart of many new product developments and powers a lot of our day-to-day development workflows.
- WooCommerce is the most popular and most flexible e-commerce platform on the web. We’re working tirelessly on giving you all the control, while keeping the platform fast and stable.
- Gutenberg is a new block-level editor for WordPress with clean abstractions for users, too, not just developers.
- Tumblr is a microblogging social network where users create, share, and follow what they love.
- To view more of our recent work, check out our longer product list on Automattic.com.
How do we work?
- We’re kind to each other and our users – we build a positive, supportive, and inclusive culture of cohesive teams focused on building useful products for our customers.
- We work as a global and distributed workforce resulting in a unique way of working built around our creed.
- We offer flexible work arrangements allowing our team members to work when they feel best.
- We open-source! We’re cool with open-sourcing everything except passwords, or secret keys.
- We ship often, deploying many times daily with the help of peer code review, continuous integration, and our global workforce in over 70 countries.
- We welcome collaboration, and you can be involved in any discussion across our many communication channels.
- We encourage you to learn and develop and we support you with what you need – covering expenses, easy internal mobility, coaching.
Enough about us, let‘s talk more about you. Working at Automattic might be a good fit if:
- You care and often obsess over the quality and the details of your work.
- Debugging any problem is a fun challenge and not a chore.
- Understanding the layers of abstraction below and above your work isn’t something extra, but how you operate.
- You have production experience with several programming languages, frameworks, and paradigms. We mostly use PHP and JavaScript at Automattic, we expect you to be comfortable with the idea of becoming an expert in these languages, even if being one isn’t a requirement to apply.
- In your mind abstraction is associated as much with cost as it is with value.
- You have experience working at scale – it can be on the backend and performance side, or via the complexity of interacting with a multi-million diverse userbase.
- Are open and able to travel 3-4 weeks per year to meet up with your teammates in person.
Product Lead, Blaze Ads
Blaze Ads is Automattic’s self-serve advertising product for small businesses using WordPress. It’s an early-stage product with strong traction, and we’re now looking for a Product Lead to take Blaze to the next stage: deepening product-market fit and growing customer acquisition.
You’ll lead a small, cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and product marketers. This is a hands-on role for someone who knows how to build and scale self-serve ad tools, understands the needs of small business owners, and isn’t afraid to do the scrappy, unglamorous work of taking a product from 1 to 10.
Responsibilities:
- Own the Blaze product and roadmap: what we build, why, and in what order.
- Help Blaze grow from a tool primarily for bloggers to one that meets the needs of small businesses getting started online. You’ll own everything from the user interface and onboarding experience to campaign performance and attribution.
- Work closely with engineers and designers to simplify complex ad tech into something that feels effortless to the user. Your job is to keep the product intuitive without dumbing it down.
- Talk to users constantly and make decisions based on real-world feedback.
- Partner with Automattic products (WordPress.com, Woo, and Jetpack) to drive distribution and growth.
Requirements:
- You have 3–6 years of product experience, including time as the lead PM in a meaningful product area.
- You’ve worked on self-serve advertising products before, ideally for small businesses.
- You understand how ad tech works, but don’t get lost in it.
- You care deeply about the customer and can translate their struggles into smart, focused product work.
- You’re energized by early-stage problems and don’t need a big team or process to make progress.
- You’re comfortable working independently and thrive in remote environments.
- You may have started out as an engineer, but you’ve been in product roles for a while.
We are currently prioritizing candidates who reside in North American and EMEA time zones.
Salary range: $120,000-$190,000 USD. Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.
We are searching for high-caliber candidates with the skills and qualities to have a net positive for Automattic. Pay will reflect the potential contribution and the impact you can bring, which may, in some cases, go beyond the range stated.
This isn’t your typical work-from-home job—we are a fully-remote company with an open vacation policy. Read more about our compensation philosophy. Growth Marketing Manager, Pressable
About the Role
We’re hiring a Growth Marketing Manager to be both the architect and the driver of our demand engine. You’ll own the infrastructure, data, and reporting that power decision making. And just as importantly, you’ll act on insights to run experiments, optimize our funnel, and unlock new revenue opportunities.
The role blends operations and growth marketing: you’ll ensure our systems hum, while also testing campaigns, partnering with growth agencies, and pushing conversion rates higher. You’ll collaborate across marketing, sales, product, and analytics to make sure every campaign, channel, and touch point is contributing measurable growth.
You’ll also be expected to operate as an AI-native marketer → using AI tools to accelerate workflows, scale experimentation, and spot patterns that lead to faster, smarter growth.
Key Responsibilities
Growth Experiments & CRO:
- Design, run, and analyze experiments across the funnel (ads, landing pages, onboarding, nurture).
- Partner with product, FED, and agencies to improve conversion rates on high impact surfaces.
- Test new growth channels and tactics, measure results, and scale what works.
Demand Marketing & Agency Collaboration:
- Support and optimize PPC, paid social, and other demand programs in partnership with agencies.
- Provide insights, feedback, and direction to maximize ROI and reduce CAC.
- Build lightweight playbooks for scaling campaigns.
Growth Systems & Automation:
- Own and evolve the marketing tech stack (HubSpot, GA4, Maxio etc.).
- Drive automation, personalization, and scalable workflows across the funnel.
Attribution and Reporting:
- Build and optimize reporting across the funnel (CAC, LTV, ROI, pipeline velocity).
- Identify where growth is working and where there are leaks.
Funnel Optimization & Lead Ops:
- Implement and refine segmentation and nurture flows.
- Partner with Sales to reduce friction and accelerate time-to-close and time-to-value.
Forecasting & Dashboards:
- Own forecasting and surface actionable insights to help prioritize growth levers.
AI-Enabled Ops & Insights:
- Leverage AI to accelerate analysis, automate reporting, and spot growth opportunities.
