The Gasoline Paper Trader is responsible for developing and executing trading strategies in predominantly in the global gasoline paper markets to optimize Chevron’s positions and deliver profitable results. The role involves managing risk through derivatives, analyzing market fundamentals, and collaborating closely with physical traders to align paper strategies with physical flows. Success requires strong market insight, quick decision-making, and strict adherence to compliance and Operational Excellence standards.

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute trading strategies for gasoline paper markets to optimize Chevron’s US and global positions to generate profit.
  • Work with Analytical team to develop fundamentals to spot market trends and identify opportunities.
  • Collaborate with physical traders to align paper strategies with physical flows and blending economics.
  • Provide clear communication of positions, strategies, and operational requirements to supporting teams.
  • Manage risk exposure through derivatives (swaps, futures, options) and ensure compliance with internal risk limits.
  • Negotiate and execute financial commodity transactions across multiple time horizons (spot, term).
  • Maintain strong relationships with brokers, counterparties, and internal stakeholders to enhance market intelligence.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance standards and Chevron’s Operational Excellence principles in all trading activities.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree Level (or equivalent) in Engineering, Economics, Business, or related fields preferred.
  • Solid understanding of refining economics, blending, and arbitrage flows (USGC, NYH, Europe, Asia).

This position assumes the responsibility of monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing all production process variables, pipeline gathering system, disposal systems, and ensuring that all production and gathering equipment is operating at peak reliability and efficiency, as well as acquiring and storing data.

Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Actively supports Health, Environment, and Safety processes by accomplishing daily activities within applicable regulations and policies, carrying out duties in an environmentally conscious manner, following safe operating practices as described in the Shale & Tight Business Unit Control of Operations principles, maintaining a safe working environment, and being prepared to respond to an environmental or safety event

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of six months of current related experience in oil and gas, or related petrochemical industries
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, weekends, and holidays of the assigned work schedule, and overtime based on workload
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must live within 50 miles of the work location or be willing to relocate and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), CMMS, and the ability to understand new software packages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Petroleum or Process Technology, or related technology discipline
  • Two years of current related experience in oil and gas, or related petrochemical industries
  • DOT/PHMSA pipeline OQ training
  • Familiarity with reliability efforts for a variety of safety, environmental, and production-related issues
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of production and facility equipment
  • Familiar with pneumatic/electronic instrumentation
  • Basic knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), CMMS, SCADA, and an aptitude for learning new software packages
  • Capable of simultaneously performing multiple tasks with limited supervision
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers, contractors, and internal and external customers
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work with minimal supervision

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Operate plant equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation of the plant according to established practices, procedures and operating guidelines.  This includes proper adjustments of operating conditions, process troubleshooting and close communication with the Board Operator, Operations Shift Supervisor, all other outside operators and Maintenance personnel
  • Safely perform plant startup, shutdown, and plant emergency activities
  • Notify the Operations Shift Supervisor of abnormal operating situations and equipment malfunctions affecting safe and/or efficient plant operation
  • Develop, update and execute operations procedures, hazardous energy isolation sheets, operator rounds, etc.
  • Conduct regular equipment checks, performing detailed process troubleshooting as required
  • Maintain equipment by conducting preventative maintenance including regular equipment checks, troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, providing feedback to Maintenance, entering quality work orders, preparing equipment for maintenance and preparing area for maintenance
  • Ensure the safety of personnel working within the assigned area and ensure Personal Protective Equipment and other plant policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Follow all safety guidelines regulated by REG, OSHA, or other regulatory agencies
  • Support the development, implementation, and coordination of the operator training and qualification process to ensure compliance with process safety management standards
  • Support process safety management systems including, but not limited to, management of change, process hazard analysis, process safety information, mechanical integrity program and work permitting process to ensure compliance with process safety management standards
  • Support the issuing of all safe work permits pertaining to routine maintenance activities, turnaround work and/or other non-routine work
  • Monitor and continually improve quality control in all aspects of plant operation
  • Make recommendation on improving production efficiency at the plant and assist in the implementation of such recommendations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications:
