Mechanical Engineer 1

The Impact You’ll Make

As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you’re designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology’s packaging.

In this role, you will directly contribute to the Deposition Products Group.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the full life cycle of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept to productization including conceptualization, designing, CAD modeling, development, and test/validation.
  • Designs components using variety of metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics, and advanced coatings.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with SEMI, Lam standards, and industry best practices for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Conduct detailed analysis including structural, finite element analysis (FEA), thermal, heat transfer, stress, vibrations, fluid and gas flow dynamics, and manufacturability to properly specify designs.
  • Develop and conduct feasibility studies and test plans to characterize and validate design performance.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to a diverse audience in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to for procurement and assembly of components and equipment.

Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with no previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.
  • This is a graduate eligible role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and technical presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD tools such as CREO, Siemens NX, ProE, SolidWorks, and others.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Process Engineer 3

As a Process Engineer at Lam, you will operate on cutting-edge technology, harnessing atomic precision, material science, and surface engineering to push technical boundaries. Your role involves developing new and advanced process formulations, defining equipment hardware to meet processing requirements, evaluating test data, and coordinating design requirements to ensure compatibility of processing methods. Your expertise and knowledge play a crucial role our customers success, making an impact on the next generation of semiconductor breakthroughs.

In this role, you will directly contribute to The Etch Product Group.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct process engineering research, development, and evaluation in support of Lam’s cutting-edge semiconductor equipment and systems.
  • Review and enhance processing techniques and methods applied in the manufacture and fabrication of products.
  • Develop and sustain new processes and process improvements to reduce production costs and increase yields.
  • Compile and analyze test data to establish next steps in process development and determine appropriate limits and variables for process specifications.
  • Collaborate internally to plan, collect data, analyze results, and report on customer demos for existing process applications.
  • Contribute to next generation product development and release activities supporting the semiconductor roadmap.
  • Provide leadership, clear direction, and guidance to process technicians to support execution activities.

Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics or related field with 3+ years of experience; or a PhD with no previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with working in a laboratory and on semiconductor equipment with experience in surface preparation and analytical techniques.
  • In-depth understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Highly proficient in MATLAB, Python, or other similar scientific computing language.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with statistical tools (JMP, Minitab, etc.)
  • Background in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD), or Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD).
  • Background in Plasma Physics, Reactive Ion Etching (RIE), Atomic Layer Etching (ALE), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), Capacitively Coupled Plasma (CCP).
  • Knowledge of Material synthesis and material characterization.
  • Experience working in a collaborative and matrixed environment with diverse teams, semiconductor customers, and/or partners.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $100,000.00 –  $220,000.00.

Process Engineering Intern

The Impact You’ll Make

Be a part of the exciting Patterning Technology team in Lam Research. Our mission is to innovate WFE (wafer fab equipment) processes and products in the EUV (Extreme Ultra-Violet) Patterning Technology.

In this role, you will directly contribute EUV Patterning process development efforts. You will work directly with experienced process development engineers developing novel patterning technologies. Your work will lead to breakthrough in the technologies and products that Lam provides to semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.

What You’ll Do

  • Learn to operate semiconductor wafer processing equipment to conduct in laboratory and clean-room environments.
  • Supports in the testing and characterization on development of new processes. These duties include setting up of and running experiments, operations of wafer process tools in application labs, chemistry and material analysis, and use of metrology tools to measure and characterize on wafer performance.
  • Plan and execute concept and feasibility studies of novel EUV patterning technology including thin film deposition processes, etching process, chemistries, and materials.
  • Summarize and analyze experimental test data. Discuss and present experimental data and conclusions with cross-functional teams of engineers and management.
  • Further R&D support activities can also include conducting and sharing literature reviews on relevant research topics.

Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • We are looking for high energy individuals that want to learn and contribute to an innovative organization. The individual must be willing to take on technical challenges and help identify world-class solutions.
  • Must be a PhD graduate student in Material Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related majors.
  • Understanding of chemical mechanisms in semiconductor wafer processing.
  • Hands-on experience in a cleanroom or laboratory setting working with thin films, semiconductor patterning, or solid-state materials.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills. Proficient in PowerPoint to adequately convey project status, experimental plans, and conclusions.
  • Available to intern for 3 months at minimum. Preferably able to intern for longer.
  • Seeking individuals who can start immediately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with plasma process of depositing and etching of thin films.
  • Understanding of problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques such as DOE, 5-why, 8D, fishbones, etc.
  • Have experience working on troubleshooting processing equipment and systems.
  • Experience with thin film analytical methods such as SEM/TEM, XPS, AFM, ellipsometry, SIMS.
  • Knowledge in lithography, photoresist, EUV patterning
