Job Summary

This position is responsible for participating in the safe operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plants and coordinate in providing safety training to the staff and workmen in the facility. The Safety officer Measures, organize training, inspect premises and work activities, investigate incidents, and prepare reports on occurrences.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Ensure compliance by all parties with Company’s HSE requirements and regulations and

all relevant legislation and statutory requirements, including rules and regulations (as amended from time to time)

  • Develop and administer plant safety training program to ensure acquisition of desired skills
  • Trains new personnel; coordinate and conduct training for technical and non-technical staff

on the safe operation and maintenance of treatment plants

  • Identify and recommend training and safety requirements for plant personnel
  • Develop, implement and maintain operating standards, safety and health programs and

plans

  • Coordinate and conduct safety inspections; investigate “near miss” situations
  • Participate in and/or review the various Formal Safety Assessments like risk assessment

and enforce preventive measures

  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports as required
  • Investigate incidents to determine causes and prepare reports
  • Gathers, organizes, examines, and evaluates data and makes appropriate response
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the plant manager

Knowledge Required For The Position

  • Knowledge of the operating procedures of sewage treatment plant
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for safe operations
  • Knowledge of chemical application in the sewage treatment process
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to sewage treatment plant operations
  • Knowledge of LOTO, Isolation and de-isolation procedures, gas testing procedures, chemical handling procedures, etc.
  • Knowledge of First aid and Emergency Procedures
  • Good communication skills with ability to present health and safety topics
  • Skill in planning and meeting deadlines
  • Skill in compiling and analyzing data

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The safety officer spot-checks ongoing work for compliance with legislation and promoting a culture of health and safety in the workplace. He / She will also ensure adherence to internal and external rules/regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering, from a recognized University
  • Certified from NEBOSH / IOSH etc.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic education
  • Sufficient experience (minimum 5 years) in wastewater treatment plants to thoroughly understand the work involved to be able to answer questions and resolve problems
