The Equine Sales Specialist (ESS) primary responsibility is to physically visit and manage predominately the mass retail locations and independent retailers. The ESS will work closely with the Key Account Manager and National Business Development manager to merchandise customer locations, sell-in the marketing calendars and build customer promotions using marketing funds (MDF).

This ESS will work in collaboration with the Mass Retail Sales Manager to drive distribution and sales of BUCKEYE™ Nutrition products in the NW market. Primarily focused on but not limited to Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.  Accountable for profitable business growth via the achievement of specific gross sales value, improvements in store merchandising metrics (including SKUs/store, preferable positioning, signage/POP placement, and developing Ambassadors/influencers in the store), and distribution targets.

The ESS will be the supporting contact for both the retail business, distributors and end-users in the NW territory.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years previous sales experience – account management preferred
  • Mass retail experience preferred (Farm Fleet, Tractor Supply, etc.)
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. & work remotely
  • Must live within territory boundaries

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Responsible for our partners In the Northwest region of the U.S. for Mars Horsecare US, with primary focus in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and surrounding states.
  • Develop and manage current and prospective independent and multi-location retailers within the territory.
  • Formulate a strategy for top key distributor accounts and mass/Independent retail accounts. Define objectives and goals, including optimizing distribution, increasing account penetration with additional SKUs and garnering recommendations at retail.
  • Support and provide insights to team impact planning session
  • Support cross functional teams with a sales perspective to other functions, collaborating with R&D, Marketing and Logistics on projects including, but not limited to Pricing, Distribution, SKU Rationalization, Promotional Calendars, Category Management, etc.
  • Must be incredibly organized, prioritizing critical activities and leveraging sales skills and given sales tools to achieve or exceed agreed objectives.
  • Measure and evaluate specific territory business (KPI’s, trends, gaps/opportunities, what’s working/not working).
  • Participate in team conference calls, training and attend all sales meetings.
  • Responsible for achieving profitable sales and share growth in alignment with sales plan goals/objectives.
  • Ensure flawless tactical execution of all merchandising and new item launches resulting in achievement of sales plan goals.
  • Key point person for customers (Retail stores, distributors, buyers, end-users, business owners and managers).
  • Analyze business opportunities and provide input to the Mass Retail Key Account Manager to enhance overall business results.
  • Overnight travel within the territory and to sales meetings and Industry shows.

JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Customer service Experience – Responsible for providing excellent customer experiences through delivery of our experience programme, Phoenix, which will include welcoming customers, exploring the customer needs and being available to answer any questions or provide any support they may need, to deliver an excellent customer journey in our stores through retail and café, whilst Optimise sales through effective customer experience and selling techniques.

 

Brand – Be a Brand Ambassadors and you will share and develop your retail and cocoa knowledge to give all our customers a consistent customer experience.

 

Product knowledge – Responsible for learning our range of products including the variety of products and categories we sell, how we grow cocoa and manufacture our products, allergens and our commitments to sustainability and ethics. Will also be running tasting sessions and demonstrations for customers of products.

 

Stock – Working with the team on receiving deliveries, adhering to H&S guidelines, and ensuring stock is safely secured in stockroom areas. On the shop floor, responsible for ensuring stock is presented appropriately according to guidelines, kept clean and tidy and best before dates are adhered.

 

 

Café – In stores with café facilities, preparing hot and cold drinks, ice creams and Food offering according to guidelines adhering to the allergens, quality, and health and safety standards and following the process outlined to make the products. Serving customers food with the relevant cutlery and presentation.

 

Operations – Ensure Health & Safety compliance through effective Daily Operations.  Maintain outstanding hygiene & cleanliness standards throughout the store.  Maintain all aspects of store security in accordance with company policies & procedures (example: Cash, Stock, IT, Buildings, H&S). In the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant manager, be responsible for the opening and closing procedures for the store & all business requirements whilst holding the store and Keys.

 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Customer service – previous experience of working in customer service is not essential. A positive attitude and desire to work in a customer facing environment are of greater importance.

Teamwork – can demonstrate previous experience of working as part of a team to achieve a shared goal or target. Understands that working in retail means being flexible to support colleagues and workload according to needs.

Merchandising skills – Able to identify product types and use guidelines to ensure displays are well presented and stocked according to specifications, seasonal promotions, and special offers.

Communication – asks relevant questions to ensure they are listening carefully to customers individual needs and reacting accordingly. Adapting their style to different customer types. Communicates openly and honestly with respect and clarity with colleagues and manager.

Product knowledge – able to learn about a diverse range of products but also able to understand the background to those products- how they’re grown and produced as well as a passion for cocoa, and a strong desire to learn about people’s differing tastes and any relevant allergens. Always ready to learn about new products and innovations as they are introduced.

Information Delivery:​

  • Ensure on time delivery for Mars Petcare outbound shipments. Ensure shipments have assigned carriers by following an established routing guide. Utilizing the TMS system to process shipments, assign appointments and assign reason codes. Work with carriers to secure shipment coverage and address issues that come up throughout the life cycle of the shipment. Collaborate with Mars sites and internal teams to ensure on time delivery to customers.
