Manager – Insurance Operations – Austin, TX

The Marsh Insurance Operations team is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the company’s insurance solutions. We provide administrative and technical support to client-facing brokers and provide support to clients by responding to insurance transaction queries. An Insurance Operations Supervisor is a seasoned leader who guides an experienced support team, making sure they are productive and meeting objectives, while helping them to resolve the more difficult issues they face.

 

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Insurance Operations team at Marsh. This role will be based in the Austin – Lakeline office. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

 

Insurance Operations Manager

 

What can you expect?

  • As a part of our Center of Excellence, you will manage and lead a team of specialists in an insurance operations environment who are responsible for supporting our clients’ insurance transaction queries in the Central and Northeast zones
  • You will oversee the quality of communications and work of client- and internal-facing colleagues and implement initiatives to refine existing processes and procedures, driving ownership of outcomes to reinforce desired business objectives
  • You will provide “manager once removed” leadership for up to 100 staff within the Operations team and provide overall leadership advice to team leaders
  • You’ll attend a robust training program of classroom-based, side-by-side, and on-the-job training; we will provide the knowledge required to be successful while learning our systems; this is not a sales position and you will not be asked to sell insurance, and an insurance license is not required, although you’re welcome to take the licensing exam for career development purposes

 

We will count on you to:

  • Lead a team of direct reports, including supervisory staff, who support our clients and client team colleagues, including consistently reviewing and maintaining staffing needs
  • Develop and engage team members through active coaching and mentoring
  • Partner across the organization including Finance, IT, Business, and Operational Leadership to execute strategy and vision
  • Collaborate with senior members of our client support team to resolve issues and achieve high-quality outcomes, and lead and/or participate in stakeholder engagement sessions and work in partnership with client teams to improve the client experience
  • Oversee the complaints management system and manage/address escalated calls, complaints, questions and queries as necessary
  • Continuously identify areas for process improvement to increase efficiencies, as well as participate, monitor, and/or oversee the initiatives

 

What you need to have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 5 years of team leadership experience in an office environment (including coaching, mentoring, development, and career guidance)
  • Effective written and oral communication skills – able to clearly articulate issues, problems, and resolutions within this field
  • Influence/persuasiveness – can explain why a process or rule needs to be followed and gain colleague support/change behavior as a result
  • Quality & Compliance –Ethical behavior; understanding of rules and why they need to be followed, but flexible enough to know when a solution is workable
  • Drive and self-motivation – able to work independently, follow through on a task/complete a project/meet a deadline

Insurance Operations Supervisor – Surplus Lines

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Insurance Operations team at Marsh. This role will be based in the Austin–Lakeline office. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

We will count on you to:

  • Manage a team of Surplus Lines Specialists, including coaching and development, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring the consistency, quality, and accuracy of work being completed
  • Assist in identifying knowledge gaps throughout our US brokerage population and leverage Specialists to train where necessary
  • Continuously identify areas for process improvement to increase efficiencies, as well as participate, monitor, and/or oversee the initiatives
  • Maintain and consistently review staffing needs
  • Keep current on pending and actual changes to surplus lines regulations
  • Analyze data to determine trends, and present those findings across teams

What you need to have: 

  • 5+ years of work experience, which includes 3+ years in commercial lines insurance
  • 3+ years of department/team management experience in an office environment
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency – knowledge of basic Excel formulas, pivot tables, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Technical reporting capabilities – ability to analyze data from multiple sources, pull out pertinent data, process data in an Excel spreadsheet, and collate findings into a report to present week-over-week, month-over-month, and year-over-year trends
  • Experience with root cause analysis
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills – able to clearly articulate issues, problems, and resolutions within this field

Senior Compliance Officer

Marsh McLennan Agency (MMA) is seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to serve as a trusted advisor to business colleagues on regulatory, risk, compliance and ethics issues relating to MMA’s regulated insurance brokerage businesses.

The Senior Compliance Officer will cover an array of issues and will support the execution of all elements of the Company’s compliance program. Please note that there’s a 3-day per week in-office requirement for this role.

What you can expect:

Reporting to MMA’s Chief Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for providing valued advice to colleagues in MMA’s business insurance (including P&C), employee health & benefits insurance, and private lines practices. You will uphold MMA’s compliance culture by developing and participating in all components of MMA’s compliance program, including regulatory compliance, policy and procedure implementation, training, monitoring and investigations into potential policy violations.

The Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs (LCPA) department promotes a culture in which ethical, lawful, and risk mindful behavior is encouraged and reinforced. LCPA develops and implements policies and procedures, systems and controls, training and communications, monitoring activities, and management reporting to prevent, detect and respond to violations of law and company policies.

We will count on you to:

  • Track, analyze and report on regulatory developments relevant to MMA’s business
  • Design and update policies and procedures, as appropriate
  • Conduct compliance monitoring and drive remedial actions
  • Develop and conduct creative and impactful compliance training and communications
  • Deliver timely and practical advice to business colleagues on regulatory, risk, compliance and ethics issues
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with compliance liaisons in MMA’s business
  • Conduct investigations into potential violations of internal policies and/or laws and regulations applicable to the company
  • Support broader Marsh McLennan compliance initiatives

What you need to have: 

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
  • Are comfortable working in the areas of MMA’s offerings – primarily commercial insurance, employee health and benefits, private lines and retirement services.
  • Can address issues involving licensing, surplus lines, professional standards, transparency and disclosure, privacy and data protection, and M&A due diligence and integration, while maintaining a perspective that is both independent of and sensitive to commercial objectives.
  • Have a strong knowledge of laws applicable to MMA in areas such as rebating, referral fees, and surplus lines; trade sanctions; cybersecurity, data protection and privacy; conflicts of interest and services provided to insurers; and third-party risk.
