About the Team
Grocery has the biggest share of the overall retail spend in India and is projected to be an $800B market in 2024-25, of which the majority contribution comes from non-Metro cities. The grocery market in Metro has become crowded with a lot of players trying to solve the supply chain but the higher cost of logistics restricts these players to disrupt the lower tier cities.
At Grocery, we are building the most cost-effective distribution channel to disrupt the grocery market in lower tier (non-Metro) cities of India which is currently dominated by offline players. We are onto the journey of creating a hyperlocal marketplace for grocery and solving the intermediate inefficiencies in the distribution system.
Grocery is an early-stage mini start-up within Meesho with a completely different supply chain and modus operandi. We are a bunch of high-energy enthusiasts working towards creating something cool and something big.
About the Role
As a part of the Category Team, you would own the Sourcing margin for certain Category/Categories. Devise, plan and execute Margin improvement initiatives. Ensure availability of products for respective categories across the category. Devise quality control means to ensure appropriate product quality for customers. Work on Risk Mitigation by diversifying the seller base.
What you will do
- Responsible for growing the Sourcing function for certain Category/ Categories by identifying and growing Suppliers to meet Business Plans.
- Act as a specialist for his/her Categories – Market Intelligence, Data Analytics, Contract Management, Support for tools like eSourcing, Contract Lifecycle Management, and Procurement Master Data.
- Optimize sourcing procedures to attain maximum efficiency, at the same time develop alternate sources and risk mitigation strategies.
- Contract and price negotiations with suppliers and ensuring setup of contracts with the right checks and balances.
- Work closely with the category sell side team ensuring that required sales mix is maintained for the brands & categories you manage.
- Demonstrate best practices and process optimization in Buying including range planning, assortment architecture, cost negotiation, buying merchandise, and in-season trading.
What you will need
- Proven experience (2-5 years) in Sourcing & Supplier Management – Staples Preferred
- Strong business judgment with a track record of successful negotiations and overall relationship management
- Proven analytical thinking, project management skills, attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills

WaaS – Warehousing as a Service – Meesho is a pure play marketplace driven business in which we don’t buy inventory or give preferential treatment to select vendors. We are on a mission to democratize ecommerce in India. As a next step to that – we are building a warehousing platform which will give access to warehousing options for our sellers so that they can deliver products cheaper, faster to our consumers. It is enabling and giving a level playing field to all sellers so that they can compete with large sellers/brands. You are expected to identify opportunities, problems and structural solutions which will make this business successful at scale. Anything and everything required to make this business successful is under your purview. Building intelligence to decide which products to bring in a warehouse, which sellers to pitch, where warehouses should be opened, Managing PnL, driving operational excellence in warehouse management, establishing robust Warehouse Control Tower metrics, generating demand and trust markers for warehouses. Building a seller panel to understand business growth due to WaaS.
Consolidation – Meesho is a marketplace where currently majority orders are fulfilled by sellers instead of warehouses. Due to this if a user has ordered 2 products from 2 sellers – they receive 2 separate packets. This leads to higher supply chain costs, higher carbon emissions etc. We are on a mission to figure out innovative ways to consolidate these shipments at various legs in the supply chain to save cost – pass on this benefit to the same user. And save carbon emission alongside. We are looking for smart problem solvers, strong in analytics and innovative thinkers to solve this first of its kind innovative problem at scale. Your role is analyzing data, figuring out the path in which shipment moves and coming up with various innovative solutions to club order from the same user together.
