Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering – Ads Insights and Tooling


Netflix is one of the world’s leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. We recently launched a new ad-supported tier to offer our members more choice in how they consume their content. Our new tier allows us to attract new members at a lower price point while also creating a compelling path for advertisers to reach deeply immersed audiences.

 

Our Team

The Ads Data Science and Engineering team at Netflix’s mission is to help build the foundation of the ads business at Netflix. We conduct analyses and develop analytic tools, build predictive models and algorithms using machine learning, all with the goal of creating more choices and joy for our members. As a leader in this space, you’ll work closely with partner teams to think big picture about our business goals and how we achieve them through analysis and tooling.  You will lead the team that enables Netflix to understand ads performance, enhance targeting capabilities, and inform advertiser effectiveness via developing Measurement solutions and creating business metrics. Your team will apply strong analytical rigor to evaluate ideas, dissect problems, build workflows, provide recommendations and drive success on end-to-end analytics initiatives in this 0 -1 space.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Hire, inspire, and grow high-performing data scientists and analytics engineers. Lead strong partnerships with stakeholders from across the business – from product management, engineering, consumer insights, content, and strategy.
  • Instill an inclusive culture that is innovative and collaborative, both within your team and in the broader organization.
  • Develop a team charter and roadmap that optimizes the impact of the team and reflects evolving business needs.
  • Act as an ambassador between the Product, Engineering, Strategy, and DSE teams by having a deep knowledge of how the Netflix Ads product works.
  • Ensure that your team is producing consistently trustworthy and high-quality technical outputs that influence the business.

 

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Demonstrated tenacity, resilience, and leadership experience that enables you to organize and drive cross-functional projects, overcome challenges, and propose solutions.
  • Be both quantitative and qualitative. You should be able to quickly assess and understand complex systems, but you should also have a high EQ so that you can be a product ambassador to the rest of the advsertising organization.
  • You are a player-coach. You can develop roadmaps and strategy, but also execute on technical work and ensure that your team produces consistent high quality outputs.
  • Superb communication skills – You must be able to cultivate strong working relationships, communicate effectively, write meticulously, and give outstanding presentations to both technical and creative audiences.
  • Experience building and leading hybrid Data Science and Analytics teams in the Ads space.
  • Capacity and passion to translate business objectives into actionable analyses, and analytic results into business and product recommendations.

 

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $480,000 – $1,200,000.

Manager – Film, Content Consumer Insights

As the Content Consumer Insights team, we work closely with business partners to inspire creative decision-making by providing rich insights into genres, content opportunities, audiences, and evolving content tastes. We strive to understand the underlying needs, motivations, and emotions that drive love for our TV shows and movies so we can help Netflix continue to create stories that will excite members around the world.

 

Within Content Consumer Insights, the Film pod focuses on all things related to movies on Netflix.  This includes big-picture topics (e.g. understanding perceptions of our film offering) as well as title-specific work that spans the early stages of development through marketing and release.  This is a high-impact role that will oversee a team of best-in-class researchers who are helping to shape Netflix films today and in the future.

 

What you will do:

  • Manage a team of researchers who own the relationships with key film Content & Marketing executives and creators (across the entire live-action film catalog)
  • Develop roadmaps, prioritization mechanisms, and overall ways of working that help guide the film insights team to deliver maximum business impact
  • Represent the research and overall POV of the consumer in film leadership forums
  • Understand the direction of the Netflix business at large, and cascade critical context to the team to enable them to do their best work
  • Develop innovative approaches to conducting research at each stage of the content lifecycle (e.g. development, production, post-release, etc.), and help drive the team toward new ways of thinking
  • Partner with the other managers in Content Consumer Insights to identify collaboration opportunities and help shape the direction of the Content Consumer Insights team overall
  • Partner with Regional Consumer Insights researchers to understand and inform Netflix films at a global level
  • Collaborate with partners from Finance & Strategy and Data Science to help inform broader business strategy

About You

  • You are deeply passionate about movies and know the movie industry well
  • You have a minimum of 10+ years of hands-on research experience at a network/studio/streamer or market research agency; diverse experience across these areas is a plus
  • You have 3+ years of experience managing and mentoring research teams
  • You are well-versed in movie research, especially around development, production, and marketing strategy
  • You are a strong communicator and have great storytelling skills with experience turning data  into actionable insights and socializing across different departments (from content/creative to data scientist to high-level executive)
  • You are comfortable representing the consumer POV in leadership forums and aren’t afraid to be the dissenting voice in the room
  • You are an excellent collaborator; you build strong partnerships within your team and with stakeholders
  • You are an independent thinker who likes taking the initiative and approaches problem-solving with an innovative mindset; you focus on long-term solutions and making an impact at scale
  • You have a master of prioritization and time management – both the big picture and in terms of your own time
  • Experience working with data science and/or product teams is a plus.

Talent Intelligence Partner

Talent Intelligence is part of the Talent Acquisition team and collaborates with leaders across Netflix on critical talent questions. Team members act as consultative partners, using internal and external labor market insights to inform decision-making, candidate engagement, and long-term workforce strategy across business units and regions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own research projects from inception to delivery, including stakeholder engagement, alignment with Talent and Netflix priorities, and effective communication of findings.
  • Act as subject matter expert on labor markets, industry trends, and associated research methodologies.
  • Anticipate business needs and proactively deliver insights that help the Talent organization react to changing market trends.
  • Creatively address research questions in data-scarce areas.
  • Collaborate with teammates to identify the simplest, most effective solutions to stakeholder challenges.

 

Key Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in a client-facing role in HR strategy, consulting, or finance.
  • Ability to effectively translate research findings into clear, actionable insight.
  • Experience managing large, cross-functional projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in market research, data analysis and common analysis tools (e.g. Sheets, Excel, SQL).
  • Adaptability, tendency toward simple, creative solutions, and ability to effectively prioritize work in a demanding and changing environment.
  • The kind of curiosity, open-mindedness, and thoughtfulness toward work and professional relationships that would make you a great teammate and partner in the Talent organization.

 

This is a hybrid role based in our Los Angeles or NYC office.
