A Day in the Life

The Director, U.S. State Government Affairs will serve as a key member of Medtronic’s U.S. Government Affairs team, leading state government affairs activities in a multi-state region and reporting to the Head of U.S. Government Affairs. While the territory may fluctuate over time, this role currently covers the Eastern, Southern, and Mid-Atlantic states. The position will play an integral role in helping Medtronic continue to build a best-in-class government affairs organization.

Location of Position:

This position is remote and will require approximately 25% travel.

While this is a remote position not located full-time at a physical Medtronic site, the candidate hired will be required to reside within the territory – with a preference in Washington, DC or in or near a Medtronic facility location, which includes CT, FL, MA, and TN – and travel throughout the covered region.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead Medtronic’s state government affairs activities in the Eastern, Southern, and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S.
  • Work closely with key internal partners, including facility leadership within territory, to understand business objectives; develop, implement and drive engagement and advocacy strategies in region to assist in achieving these objectives.
  • Represent Medtronic with key external stakeholders, including local and state government officials, trade associations, industry partners, and patient and provider organizations to advance the company’s objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Track and analyze legislative, regulatory, and political developments in territory that impact the company and provide timely updates and strategic insights to internal stakeholders on emerging issues and opportunities.
  • Monitor and assess political, policy and reputational developments in territory, recommend and, as appropriate, drive mitigation strategies.
  • Work with colleagues throughout the Government Affairs function to develop and support enterprise-wide strategies in the U.S.
  • Ensure compliance with state lobbying disclosure laws and ethics regulations.
  • Oversee external consultants or contract lobbyists.
  • This person will be expected to travel periodically.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Must Have: Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of government affairs experience or a minimum of 8+ years of government affairs experience with an advanced degree;
  • 7+ years of people, program or project management experience

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing multi-state government-level engagement and advocacy strategies aligned with business objectives, with a strong record of proven success

  • Provide clear, concise documentation of business requirements, processes, and solution designs, while supporting change-management activities including training coordination, communication planning, and readiness assessments

  • Lead project management tasks by ensuring timelines, risks, and stakeholder communication are effectively managed to enable timely, high-quality delivery in a cross-functional Agile environment.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

As the Enterprise Accounts Financial Leader, you’ll partner with the US Enterprise Accounts commercial team to drive improved margins, sales, market share, and enhance customer experience for some of our largest customers. You’ll provide analytical and business decision support to senior leadership, contributing financial insights to strategic plans, generating forecasts, and analyzing sales trends.

 

Responsibilities

  • Business partner to one or more Senior Leaders of Enterprise.
  • Perform and analyze financial sales modeling, variance analysis, forecasting, product analysis, financial planning, and expense analysis.
  • Provide analysis on business development and monitor performance for a select group of Target Accounts, reviewing results with business partners to drive revenue growth and margin improvement.
  • Prepare reports of findings and recommendations, compile, and consolidate financial plans and provide insights to management.
  • Utilize and report findings from Product Value Management Dashboard and Salesforce Business Opportunity Dashboard to help drive performance and improved sales performance.
  • Utilizing/steering development/optimizing sales analytics reporting tools, including Tableau, SFDC, etc. based dashboards – in partnership with sales operations systems team.
  • Generate quarterly forecasts and manage the financials to ensure achievement of key performance metrics.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance versus plan and forecast.
  • Complete deep dive analysis and reporting required by business including Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR’s), Monthly Financial Reviews (MFRs) and various ad hoc analysis.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and gaps to forecast and plan. Identify and recommend corrective action plans to mitigate key risks. Track results to opportunities that are identified.
  • Support the company’s growth plan by analyzing and reporting performance of growth and product initiatives.
  • Partner and support the Sales Finance Center of Excellence on expense reporting, forecasting, and planning at a cost center level.
  • Deliver and/or manage projects assigned and work with other stakeholders to achieve desired results.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of financial planning and analysis experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in commercial finance.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and dashboard/reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders.
  • Comfortable working independently and adapting to change.

CAS District Manager, (Mountain West)

A Day in the Life

We are seeking a committed professional to join our team. While this is a remote position not located at a physical Medtronic site, the candidate hired will be required to reside within the territory and drive to multiple accounts throughout the region. A valid driver’s license is essential for this role.

 

Provides strategic and tactical direction to the CA Solutions sales team to achieve market growth, market penetration, and market development objectives. Ensures alignment and partnership with the CRHF and CVG sales teams and the execution of plans to fully leverage the CA Solutions business. Accountable for the achievement of revenue and implant goals for products and services in an assigned region.  Accountable for driving new product launches and achieving our customer expansion goals.

 

This position will be required to travel around 60% of the time. The region includes Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and ensure the implementation of the CA Solutions sales strategy. Provides strategic leadership for the sales force and ensures alignment and partnership with Cardiology sales management
  • Successfully lead the team to achieve market development and penetration in key patient populations
  • Utilizes field visits and individual or group meetings and telephone contacts to:

    Train, coach, and develop employees in sales skills, product knowledge, teamwork, time and territory management, competitive knowledge, and career goals/pursuits

    Communicate corporate and regional mission, goals and activities

  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve short and long term business objectives.

    Developing and managing budgets and forecasts

    Ensuring efficient, effective use of inventory and expenses

    Negotiating and resolving price and contract issues (with Reps, Accounts, Regional management, and home office personnel)

  • Develop ethical, long-term customer relationships and represent Medtronic management to customers
  • Recruit and interview candidates to maintain strong personnel “bench,” hire top candidates for open positions, and meet workplace diversity goals
  • Coordinate efforts with sales reps and managers of other product lines to diversify and maximize overall Medtronic teamwork results.  Provide feedback of marketing intelligence to sales and marketing management
