Position Specific Description
Employees in this role are responsible for overseeing NextEra and Third Party customer’s generation fleet in real-time markets, transacting short term energy and transmission purchases and sales, and closely working with fuels group to balance plant requirements. This role will apply knowledge of combined cycle, peaking unit, wind, solar, storage, and nuclear generation economics and dispatch characteristics as well as a solid degree of understanding with ISO/RTO tariff, protocol and market portals ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, SERC, SPP, MISO, ERCOT, CAISO, WECC, IESO, AESO, and transmission reservation and tagging systems. This position may lead and direct a team of junior traders.
- Maximize profitability of generation assets throughout the US and Canada while operating within regional rules ISO/Balancing authority rules.
- Receives and accurately relays dispatch instructions/changes in unit status between ISO/RTO’s, plant sites, NEER Generation control center (ROCC), Day Ahead Desk and NEER Fuels desk and accurately logs information in shared log storage for compliance purposes and accurate shift turnover
- Determines generation requirements and coordinates fuel procurement to meet dispatch obligations
- Support targets for asset optimization through sound decision making around unit capabilities, market fundamentals, fuel prices and constraints, economic dispatch, ramping, capacity penalties and curtailments, effectively manage fuel burns, etc.
- Superior attention to detail with high degree of accuracy following established procedures and protocols
- Conduct real-time trading and scheduling for purchases and sales of energy and transmission
- Communication of real-time market information with trade floor
- Ability to assist in training and supporting other traders
- Accurately record purchase and sale transactions and log shift activities in relevant deal capture systems
- Ability to prioritize tasks and be able to respond to changes in priorities
- Obtain PJM generator Operator Certification within 6 months of hire
