ABC7 Los Angeles is seeking experienced news photographers for Daily hire employment. The candidate will be a self-starter, creative storyteller, and curious journalist. We are looking for a team player who works well under deadline pressure and is comfortable handling breaking news in the field with or without a reporter and can reliably deliver content in a timely manner for all platforms. Must have experience in daily newsgathering, live microwave truck operation, knowledge of broadband streaming devices such as Dejero, satellite operation, lighting, and Adobe Premiere editing.

We are looking for a problem solver who has good news judgment and can elevate a story or interview beyond what is assigned. Expected to be responsible for the proper care and use of all assigned equipment. Additional duties as necessary. Schedule flexibility and willingness to work weekends, early mornings, late nights and holidays a must. Knowledge of Southern California a plus. Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities:

Shoot interviews, b-roll and live shots. Edit news stories. Set up and execute live shots, meet daily deadlines

Safely and efficiently operate news vans using microwave, satellite and broadband streaming technology

Work collaboratively with reporter, desk, producers, writers, managers

Proven ability to multi-task and thrive in a high-pressure news environment and have good troubleshooting skills

Ability to take story from concept to completion independently

Basic qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of experience as an ENG photographer in local news

Must be experienced and proficient with a variety of professional quality ENG cameras

Adobe Premiere proficiency

A good grasp of ENG Live truck operations

Flexibility to work a variety of shifts: weekends, early mornings, late nights and holidays a must!

Photo Editor, Animals – National Geographic

The Photo Editor, Animals is responsible for researching, curating, and editing visual content for National Geographic’s most visible platforms, with a particular focus on digital. This includes our print products, NationalGeographic.com and its app, Instagram and other social platforms, and our email newsletters.

Bringing a great eye, digital-first mindset, and editorial integrity to the role, he/she/they will work quickly and accurately to research visual content across a range of subjects, with a focus on natural history but also including travel, kids, science, health, and history—collaborating with National Geographic editors and staff photographers as well as contributing photographers and writers. The role offers an opportunity to apply knowledge and appreciation for visual storytelling and photojournalism as well as new ideas to develop fresh ways to represent our stories visually and to reach new audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Photographic Research: Research, curate, and license photography for all platforms, with a focus on our digital platforms; and to provide support on workflow, billing, contracts, and other photo logistics. Ensure that budgets and deadlines are met; caption information is gathered and disseminated; obtain permissions and submit for rights clearance; verify credit line; check image veracity when in question; provide image color guidance; and make images available for broader use across platforms.
  • Digital Production: Design and build stories in CMS with eye to strong visual pacing.
  • Research and pitch visually innovative and original uses of existing images and packages, demonstrating an understanding of the different platforms and audiences.
  • Photo Production: Collaborate with staff photographers on portraiture, reportage, conceptual, or still life; work with ideas and photographers in the studio or on location.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with photo research or photo editing
  • Excellent visual taste and a wide range of knowledge about and appreciation for visual storytelling and photojournalism

What You Will Do:

  • Assign, direct, produce, and acquire a wide range of photographic stories for use across platforms, including digital, social, and print, working with guidelines for operational excellence and prioritization.

  • Manage a variety of editorial projects, including newsstand-only single-topic issues and recurring franchises for digital, social, and print, by collaborating and communicating with all teams involved—video producers, text editors, writers, designers, interactive, cartographers—to ensure the production of the holistically conceived stories that are compelling and effective
  • Manage deliverables, assets, and workflows, e.g. accurate caption information, verifying credit lines, archiving, and transmitting images, working with pre-press on color correction, checking image veracity, and making images available for use across platforms.
  • Provide field support to photographers, including securing visas, permits, releases, letters of introduction, and specialized equipment, as well as clearing them through Disney onboarding and compliance practices.
  • Contribute to our newsletters as needed.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a photo editor, with a deep focus on editorial and documentary work.
  • Highly calibrated understanding of what makes a great breakthrough story in this era saturated with content.
